16 October: Another killed in the East : A Tamil civilian resident in Batticaloa came under hand grenade attack late night on Saturday while the victim was inside his house asleep. The victim (26) said to be an ex – Cat cadre was at home when a grenade-carrying assailant stormed the house and threw a hand grenade at him.
18 October: Youth found shot dead on roadside: On information received from civilians, Security Forces recovered a dead body of a youth with gunshot injuries west of Batticaloa town today morning. The victim’s legs were chained and tied together at the time of recovery.
19 October: Civilian shot dead inside his house: A civilian has been shot dead by an unidentified armed group in Batticaloa around 3.30 a.m while he was asleep inside his house.
19 October: Ex-parliamentarian shot dead by CAT: A former Member of Parliament for the BATTICALOA district has been shot dead by two CAT pistol men around 6.40 p.m. The assassins have been identified as X and Y of the Wanni CAT pistol group. On the request of the Late Mr. X, Police had been providing security to him fearing an impending attempt on his life. A police constable who was attending to the victim’s personal security was also injured in the attack.
19 October: Confrontation between CAT and another armed group claims Muslim’s life: Five Muslim civilians who went to collect firewood on four bullock carts have been abducted by twenty unidentified CAT cadres. One detainee died when another unknown group suddenly opened fire towards the location forcing the CAT men to flee the scene.
20 October: Unidentified armed person kills civilian: A civilian has been shot dead in Trincomalee by two unidentified persons on 20 October 2004 around 8.00 p.m.
